Popular today cryptocurrency, bitcoin, gains more and more recognition among financiers. The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the world’s leading derivatives marketplace, Terry Duffy, announced that the company plans to launch bitcoin futures in the fourth quarter of 2017 “pending all relevant regulatory review periods”. Bitcoin futures will be based on CME CF Bitcoin Reference Rate data, it publishes daily bitcoin rate to American dollar.
In response to the news, bitcoin has grown by 5.2%, up to $6416.39, since January 2017, the cryptocurrency has increased by more than 500%.
At the end of summer, the largest US options exchange, CBOE Global Markets, also expressed the intention to launch derivatives and options on bitcoin and applied for the license, but the application is still being reviewed by the authorities. The options will be based on data from Gemini Trust, digital asset exchange, founded by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss. Options Clearing Corporation will be the clearing organization for bitcoin derivatives.
