Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) will launch its bitcoin futures contract on December 10, just over a week ahead of CME Group, as the official exchange site announces.
CBOE and CME Group were approved to launch bitcoin futures simultaneously a week ago. CME Group announced to start trading the instrument on December 18.
Bitcoin futures contract will trade under the ticker symbol 'XBT'. The futures price will be cash-settled based on the auction price from cryptocurrency exchange Gemini, owned by the first bitcoin billionaires, Winklevoss twins. Gemini and CBOE have been partners since August.
In future, CBOE plans to launch future contracts based on other cryptocurrencies, including Ethereum, CBOE CEO Chris Concannon said.
